Scholarship Benefits or Value

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarships provide up to $20,000 per year for three years (as research and travel allowance). Available membership in a community of other Scholars, Mentors, and Fellows, all of whom are leaders and change-makers in their respective disciplines and sectors.

• Annual value up to $60,000 (including an annual travel allowance of $20,000) per Scholar for a maximum of three years.
• Tailored leadership training from Mentors and Fellows.
• Membership in a vibrant community of Scholars, Mentors, and Fellows, all of whom are leaders in their respective disciplines and sectors.
• Opportunities to acquire greater proficiency in Canada’s official languages (French and English) as well as Indigenous languages.

Eligibility Criteria (Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation)

1) You must be already accepted into or in year one or two of a full-time doctoral program, and expected to complete your doctoral studies in 2025 or later.

2) All countries are free to apply for this scholarship in Canada.

3) Your field of study is broadly related to the humanities or human sciences of direct relevance to the future of Canada; (please refer to the FAQ for more details and read up on past scholarship recipients)

4) Your doctoral work must relate to at least one of the Foundation’s Four Themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, People and their Natural Environment.

5)The language is English Language preferable.

6) Be a Canadian citizen studying at a Canadian or foreign institution, or a non-Canadian (permanent resident of Canada or foreign national) enrolled in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution

1. First, know your university’s internal selection process deadlines because they vary in different universities.
2. Register for an account on the Foundation’s application portal, on the process student will receive a username and password by email. Save them and use it to check for ,ore updates or reply from the scholarship.
3. Then fill the application online, apply by completing the application form.
4. During filling out the application form, you will be ask to enter the name and email address of your two referees. An email will automatically be forward to the referees, asking them to upload their reference letter in PDF format.
5. Upload transcripts covering all of your post-secondary education in one PDF document, please no CEGEP transcripts.
6. Contact your university about your application to be in selection list in your university’s selection process.
7. The Foundation is asking all applicants to apply, universities are not required to nominate their preferred candidates. All candidates who submit completed applications by the December 02, 2022 at 5 p.m. EST deadline will undergo review and assess by the Foundation.
